It isn’t necessary to know everything about ourselves; human beings weren’t made solely to go in search of wisdom, but also to plough the land, wait for rain, plant the wheat, harvest the grain, make the bread. ‘Paulo Coelho’. We live at the fastest time ever as a human species. We have had the privilege to experience very speedy technological advancement where data and information is processed in an incredibly quick rate, to the point that we can access any information we need within seconds. The concept of information sharing through the internet would have been inconceivable to most of us a couple of decades ago. And yet here we are now, gaining access to a global digital encyclopeadia that has changed everything and everyone. Forever. As someone who enjoys the internet and the blessings of our technological era, I have found to have totally embraced it and to not have any particular conflicts or issues around the way it is integrated into my life. There is harmony and balance. We work together not against each other. Yet the same cannot be said with how I feel on our collective, global use of technology and how we are actually working with it. We live in the age of the fast and the “get it done yesterday” after all, which means we often get tempted to have that kind of speed infiltrating all aspects of our life and experience. So that’s exactly what we end up doing. Like the main character said in the 2014 Luc Besson film ‘Lucy’: It Is Not Technology That Is The Issue Here Or The Destruction Brought From It, But Our Ignorance. So yes, though on a personal point I am comfortable with my very own relationship with technology, on a more global and collective level, not so much. For the purpose of this blog I don't plan to so much go into the areas directly affected by the sophistication of technology or about people's relationship to it. Im more interested about how us humans are influenced by the speed of its development, and have that speed infiltrate and control the way we live our lives today, as fast and furiously. Im just worried that the obsession for speedy advancement may be interfering with our organic growth and development and blocking our wisdom and understanding from grounding and crystallising. In other words im concerned that.. We Might Just Be Increasingly Ignoring The Beautiful And Almost Forgotten Art Of Cultivating According to the free dictionary, to cultivate is: 1.To improve and prepare “land” as by plowing or fertilizing, for raising crops. 2. To loosen or dig soil around something. 3. To grow or tend to a crop or plant. 4. To promote the growth of a biological culture. 5. To encourage or foster: cultivate a respect for the law. 6. To acquire, develop, or refine, as by education 7. To seek the acquaintance or goodwill of; make friends with. What are some of the things we could be cultivating, making friends with? Here are some suggestions… Our ideas Our thinking processes Our creative expressions Our interests and hobbies Our experiences Our wisdom Our sense of self Our character Our strengths Our relationships Our personality Our values Our Growth & Development Our bullshit detectors Our understanding Our presence and groundedness Our well-being Our physical presence in the world Our spiritual connection Our material well being Our own healing Our truth Our foundations Our bigger picture and these are just some. * From the above mentioned suggestions, which of these have you been nurturing and paying attention to in your own life so far? * Are there any more areas you feel you could be cultivating and paying attention to more at this moment in time? The Psychic Land - Our Past, Present And Future Consider the long list above on the areas for cultivation as the soil of our soul and our psychic land. Our ideas, passions, values and relationships being an infinite field of energy, ready to tap into, roam around in, play in, sleep in, experiment with, build castles in as our overall playground for creation and growth. Imagine then our psychic field being something that needs to be cultivated just as the field needs to be worked on by the farmer who is tending to his/ her crop. Like the farmer’s field, our psychic field needs tending to, a kind, sensitive nurturing and a deep level of patience. We’ ll be required to develop an almost psychic awareness and communication with it, as if we’re in communion with a higher power. Cultivating is not a passive process but an active one, An inner action that requires our conscious awareness, and an engagement from our mental, emotional & spiritual bodies in order for growth to occur. Sometimes subtle action is seen as no action at all but as a passive experience that just occurs beyond us, to us and in a way irrelevantly of us. But that is not the case; yet because we often fail to fully acknowledge it as action and don’t see it as something that needs our participation, we end up skipping that part and move onto the next bit, the bit of creation but do so without having prepared the ground. When we then come across obstacles, we don’t know how to deal with them and give up, because we have not practiced the art of cultivating enough to know how to navigate unexpected developments. But can you imagine what would happen if the farmer wasn’t to put the seeds in his/her field, if s/he didn’t then plough the field, water it and finally waited with anticipation for the field to give birth to its crop? Similarly do you think we are to experience the abundance, growth and happiness we wish to know in life, by solely wishing for it to happen but doing nothing about it? Most likely not. It should be no surprise then, that the longer time we spend cultivating our psychic land, the more clarity we end up developing about moving forward in life, actualising our goals and potential. And therefore, the more we do so, the more we will benefit from it plus more people will be fed by the fruit our crop bears. When it comes to our life and our direction, how else are we supposed to know what we are to be doing in life as well as how to be doing it, if we have not spent much time nurturing our interests, passions, hobbies, values, as well as our character, strengths and presence in the world? In other words, by taking our sweet sweet time. Awareness - A Psychic Field In Need of Seeds The spiritual community has been a pioneer in creating wonderfully exciting yet rather elusive concepts such as the word “conscious”. In some ways if we look at this word closely we'll see that it doesn't real stand on its own much. Conscious is a synonym to the word “aware”. But the real focus of the word should not fall on the word itself as much as but on its object of attention. We All Seem To Be Getting Increasingly Aware And That Is All Well & Good, But Exactly What Is It We Are Becoming Aware Of? If we don’t have a basis to engage our awareness on, then we get nothing and the concept of ‘conscious’ becomes yet another vacuous concept with absolutely nothing to deliver. What would that awareness be if it wasn't to bounce against our values, belief systems and personal or collective perspectives, in our human plane at least? For many, ‘awareness’ is a key that unlocks a multitude of perspectives and dimensional realities. If so, once these realities are created, what do we want to do with them? Are we going to observe them from a distance or are we going to create from them like a child makes castles in the sand? Spiritual Insight – A Cauldron of Alchemy It’s for this reason why without our human perspective and its personality/ego aspect, our spirituality has nothing to grip on and therefore it falls flat on its face. Human beings, we can end up reaching out for a light that is not even there, only to get lost in perpetuating illusion and delusion believing in half understood concepts that hold no power and effect in the world and that end up weaving more deception and confusion That is when spirituality can become an actual hindrance, rather than a vehicle for growth and wisdom. We need to understand that spiritual insight and understanding on the human plane, requires an interplay of dynamic experiences, experience that goes beyond right or wrong for it to be birthed as wisdom. Let’s face it, without our raw material, the spiritual perspective cannot bear fruit, birth insight, wisdom, or provide soul food for us to grow and experience ourselves in this very human plane we choose to be. Instead, it creates a vacuous space. It is for this reason that at some point i turned my attention and focus from spiritual seeking to playing & creating, experimenting and birthing. Birthing what? Anything from projects, ideas, a business, a process that helps people understand their life journey and map out their purpose in life, articles, music, and so on. Once we’ve spend time cultivating, the time comes to make a conscious choice and embrace our lives as creators. Creating Vs Seeking It is for this reason i would like to see our generation being more of a generation of creators rather than one of just spiritual seekers, a generation that has the inherent understanding that somewhere in the process of having fun creating and playing, we end up exploring and creating new versions of ourselves, over and over again. Because when we get lost in the play having fun and enjoying creating we become less and less interested in seeking our true self, we’re just too busy having fun with it And that’s because the true self is to be found everywhere that the heart is. No matter how silly childish, ridiculous, complex, simple, controversial or boring. There is no reason to fear creating as it’s creation that will keep getting us to the deeper truth of who we are, even if we end up changing our approach, our perspective and our creations themselves. That is quite alright. In fact, that is the whole point. So next time you find yourself being unsure as to how to move forward, think and pay attention on the aspects of your life that need cultivating and nurturing whilst making sure you dig out the weeds and anything standing in the way.
